The Dallas Morning News Releases Circulation Figures Reflecting Continued Focus on Delivering Quality Audience

PR Newswire (US)
DALLAS, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dallas Morning News, on October
14, 2008, filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC),
subject to audit, a Publisher's Statement for the six-month period
ended September 30, 2008. The newspaper reported a daily
circulation of 338,933 and 483,841 on Sunday, including a gain in
home delivery circulation sold at 50% or more of basic price of
8,429 daily and 10,401 Sunday. While the total circulation
represented a reduction of 9.3% daily and 7.5% Sunday, the overall
declines in circulation can be attributed to planned business
initiatives specifically aimed at improving audience quality. These
include significantly reducing the number of copies sold at less
than 50% of basic price, elimination of all remaining bonus-day and
third-party distribution and reductions in single-copy sales, due
primarily to planned price increases taken earlier this year.
Without these initiatives, circulation for the period would have
been up. "We continue to receive positive feedback from our
advertisers regarding our efforts to deliver access to quality
local audiences via home delivery," said John McKeon, president and
general manager of The Dallas Morning News. "We not only offer them
access to over 268,000 daily and almost 324,000 Sunday Dallas
Morning News subscribers, we have also extended home delivery
access through new products including Briefing, our free news
summary delivered to approximately 200,000 family households every
Wednesday through Saturday and Al Dia, our Spanish-language
newspaper delivered to approximately 120,000 Hispanic households on
Wednesdays and Saturdays." "Our continuing strategy is to
concentrate on delivering high-quality, engaged consumers to our
advertisers and provide them with the strongest possible return on
their investment," said McKeon. "We are pleased with the efforts we
have made to date." About The Dallas Morning News Established in
