DALLAS, Feb. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Taking another step in its commitment to digital innovation, The Dallas Morning News has named local industry veteran Robert Wilonsky as assistant digital managing editor for dallasnews.com. Wilonsky will oversee digital content, planning and development for dallasnews.com, as well as helping develop and execute the company's digital content roadmap and strategy. He will report to Carmen Cano, head of digital news products.

"Robert's proven ability to develop digital platforms that connect deeply with readers will be an invaluable asset for us as we continue to evolve our digital products," said Cano.

Wilonsky will also continue writing about topics that are relevant to the people of Dallas, a passion he cultivated in his previous position at the Dallas Observer, through his groundbreaking, award-winning blog, Unfair Park.

"Robert brings passion and energy to all things Dallas. He's one of the nation's most active and plugged-in online journalists," said News editor Bob Mong.

A Dallas native, Robert began his career at the Dallas Times Herald. In 1991, he joined the Dallas Observer, where he covered music, sports, film and pop culture, as well as hard news. In 2006, he helped the Observer enter the digital arena as editor of Unfair Park, named the Association of Alternative Newspapers' Best Blog after only its first year. Wilonsky has also co-hosted At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper, hosted a talk show on HDNet, Higher Definition, and written for Rolling Stone, Salon and American Way, where he received a Gold Medal from the North American Travel Journalists Association. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas and the University of Texas at Austin.

"I am profoundly honored to join The Dallas Morning News and its small army's worth of writers and editors whose passion for understanding Dallas I share," said Wilonsky. "I am proud to be part of this company at such a key moment in its history, as The News moves to reinvent its online presence to offer the very vitality, urgency and intimacy readers demand."
