BASF Professional Vegetation Management (ProVM) announced today that Clyde Smith has joined the sales team as a sales specialist covering the North Florida territory. Smith comes to the company from the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension where he served as a regional integrated pest management agronomy agent for the past 3 years. "Clyde brings to us a valuable combination of technical, sales and customer support experience," said Mark Newman, BASF Eastern sales manager. "He has substantial experience training state and county right-of-way managers, Florida Parks personnel, and private landowners on vegetation management practices and new application techniques." As North Florida sales specialist, Smith will utilize his expertise in vegetation management to help government organizations and private landowners control invasive species, manage lands for endangered species and manage vegetation in the region. Smith will provide customer support, demonstrate new products and application technology, and recommend treatments. This move marks a return to BASF for Smith, who started his career with American Cyanamid Company in 1990, and stayed with the company until 2000, through its merger with BASF. While at Cyanamid and BASF, Smith held positions as technical service representative, forestry products specialist and regional sales trainer. Smith earned a bachelor's degree in Agriculture and Extension Education and a master's degree in Weed Science from Mississippi State University. He can be reached at 850-272-1150, smithca3@basf.com.
