Brookfield Homes Hawai'i Completes the Largest Build in Show's
History in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition HONOLULU, Sept. 27
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, the
aloha spirit, and unique kama'aina style architecture will be
showcased to the 'extreme' when the fifth season of Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition premieres on Sunday, September 30 on ABC. In
the two-hour episode, Ty Pennington and the design team travel to
Hawai'i to not only build a home for the Akana family of Kalihi
Valley, but also to build a new learning center for their
non-profit organization, Keiki O Ka 'Aina (KOKA). With the help of
local builder Brookfield Homes Hawai'i and thousands of volunteers
from across the Islands, the team constructed the largest build in
the show's history. "Brookfield Homes Hawai'i was so proud and
honored to be part of this wonderful project," said President
Jeffrey Prostor. "It's still amazing to me what Hawaii's building
community was able to accomplish in just seven days for this
well-deserving family and community organization. When the show
airs, the rest of the country will see first-hand that the aloha
spirit is alive and well in Hawai'i." The project entailed the
demolition and construction of a 4,500-square-foot learning center
for KOKA and 3,500-square-foot home for the Akanas, both of which
reflect Hawaii's uniqueness. Brookfield Homes Hawai'i was selected
for its statewide reach, its corporate values and its design
philosophy, which is to not only evoke a unique sense of place but
also reflect the harmony of the land. The architectural character
of each of these buildings was inspired by the humble plantation
style homes that are common throughout the Islands, as well as the
humble, welcoming and friendly nature of the Akana family, and
their connection to the 'aina (land). Hawaiian style was
incorporated throughout the project, from the landscaping to
architectural features to the paint color. This is the first
episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to feature Brookfield
Homes as the lead builder. Established in 2001, Brookfield Homes
Hawai'i delivers architecturally distinct homes on premier land
throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Among its neighborhoods are
Coconut Plantation on O'ahu, KaMilo at Mauna Lani on the Big
Island, and Nihilani at Princeville and PiliMai at Poipu on Kaua'i.
It will soon break ground on a new active adult community, called
Leihano, on O'ahu. Prior to founding Brookfield Homes Hawai'i,
Prostor served as president of Brookfield Homes Southland in
California for 10 years. Award-winning Brookfield Homes Hawai'i is
a venture between local ownership in Hawai'i and one of North
America's larger home building companies, Brookfield Homes. For
