BEIJING--China Telecom Corp. (CHA), the country's third-largest
mobile phone operator by subscribers, will begin offering customers
Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) iPhone 5 in late November or early December,
Chairman Wang Xiaochu said Friday.
Meanwhile, the government is yet to decide on a plan for rolling
out faster, fourth-generation mobile networks, Mr. Wang said on the
sidelines of the Communist Party Congress.
Nevertheless, the transition to 4G will be quick, he said,
adding that China Telecom, which is also the largest fixed-line
operator by subscribers, has experimental 4G facilities in some
cities.
China Telecom rival China Mobile Ltd. (0941.HK), the country's
largest mobile operator by subscribers, is also installing 4G
facilities.
