SALT LAKE CITY—Three of the nation's largest contact lens
manufacturers on Tuesday asked a federal appeals court in Denver to
solidify an injunction blocking a Utah law banning price
fixing.
Johnson & Johnson, Novartis AG's Alcon and Bausch &
Lomb, a unit of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc., said
the measure was designed to help Utah-based discount retailer 1-800
Contacts Inc. and would violate interstate commerce rules.
The Utah Attorney General said the companies are wrongly driving
up contact lens prices. State attorneys said the law is a
legitimate antitrust measure designed enhance competitive and help
customers.
The state wants the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals to lift a
temporary injunction blocking the law.
