(NYSE:GYI) today announced that its photographers have earned more than 80 awards and top honors over the past year from a variety of the most prestigious industry organizations, including the Overseas Press Club (OPC), National Professional Photographers Association (NPPA), Pictures of the Year International and World Press Photo. More than 30 editorial photographers received awards in a broad range of categories � spot news, domestic and international news, nature and environment, sports feature and action, portraiture as well as a new category, multimedia. Paula Bronstein, John Moore and Brent Stirton received honors for their international photojournalism, winning three of the four awards � Bronstein receiving the John Faber Award for �Death in Karachi,� Moore receiving the Robert Capa Gold Medal for �The Assassination of Benazir Bhutto,� and Stirton, shooting for Newsweek, the Feature Photography Award for �Slaughter in the Jungle.� Getty Images photographers earned 15 honors at the 2008 NPPA Best of Photojournalism Awards. John Moore was named the �Photojournalist of the Year� (large market) while Donald Miralle and Ezra Shaw both won awards in the �Sports Photojournalist of the Year� category. Mario Tama received the prestigious Cliff Edom award for his poignant and powerful images from New Orleans.�In addition, Richard Gershon has received several accolades for his unique multimedia contributions, a rapidly growing segment of Getty Images� business. Adding to the multimedia awards, Getty Images photographers Brent Stirton and Mario Tama earned recognition from Pictures of the Year International for their multimedia stories. They were joined by seven other photographers who won nine awards for news, portraiture, science and nature, and sports photography, including three first place honors for John Moore for his work in Pakistan and his moving image from Arlington National Cemetery. Earlier this year, Getty Images photographers earned nods from the World Press Photo Awards. John Moore won two first prizes (singles and stories) in �Spot News;� Brent Stirton won first prize (singles) in �Contemporary Issues;� Jeff Hutchens earned second prize (singles) in �Nature;� and Daniel Berehulak was awarded third prize (singles) for �People in the News.� In addition, Reportage contributing photographer Ghaith Abdul-Ahad was named Foreign Correspondent of the Year by the British Press Awards, which has honored the finest journalists and newspapers in the UK for more than 30 years.
