Retailer Has Sent Truckloads of Ice and Water to Houston HOUSTON, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Kroger Co. said today it continues to help customers, employees and residents in the Houston area recover in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. Kroger is working with city officials in Houston to get ice and water to residents quickly. Kroger has donated 5 truckloads of ice and 7 truckloads of water to residents in need. Kroger customers in Dallas are holding a food drive to benefit residents in Houston. The food will be delivered to the Houston market this week. More than 90 of the 113 Kroger stores in Houston are open for business. Fuel is available at 25 locations. Kroger is working closely with relief workers to make it easier for health care professionals and support agencies to obtain fuel for emergency vehicles. Hundreds of Kroger employees from other cities have volunteered to support customers and fellow employees in the recovery process in Houston. Kroger also has two mobile pharmacy units in Baytown and Texas City filling prescriptions for customers. Kroger divisions throughout the U.S. are accepting donations from customers and employees who wish to support the American Red Cross relief efforts. In addition, Kroger will make a limited matching donation to the American Red Cross.
