The May Department Stores Company Announces Expansion Of Filene's Into The Lord & Taylor Location At Emerald Square ST. LOUIS, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The May Department Stores Company announced today that it will expand its Filene's storeat Emerald Square into the space currently occupied by Lord & Taylor. The expansion allows Filene's to expand its offering of Home store merchandise as well as men's furnishings and apparel. The Lord & Taylor store is expected to close April 3. Following the close, the interior of the former Lord & Taylor space will be completely remodeled. The new Home store will be located on the lower level and Filene's will add a furniture department for the first time at Emerald Square. The men's store on the upper level will feature an expanded selection of men's furnishings and apparel. Express checkout also will be added to the new Filene's location. Combined, the Filene's stores will total approximately 275,000 square feet of retail space. Remodeling of the former Lord & Taylor store is expected to begin in May 2004 and should be completed by spring 2005. The current Filene's store also will be remodeled, with work beginning in spring 2005 and completing in spring 2006. The Emerald Square storeis one of 32 Lord & Taylor stores May announced it intends to divest. The Filene's/Kaufmann's division of The May Department Stores Company operates 101 stores in 10 states. It is the largest of May's department store divisions.
