LINK2GOV Corporation today announced it has enabled City of
Columbia (S.C.) Water Services to accept credit and debit
card-based payments over the phone for water and solid waste bills,
as well as parking garage fees. LINK2GOV, an IRS-authorized payment
provider, is a business unit of Metavante Corporation, the banking
and payments technology subsidiary of Marshall & Ilsley
Corporation (NYSE: MI). LINK2GOVs phone-based interactive voice
response (IVR) payment application helps deliver a secure,
convenient option for City of Columbia residents to pay their water
bills. Water Services customers can call 866-9-H2O-PAY
(866-942-6729) to initiate a card-based payment. All the following
network-branded credit and debit cards will be accepted for
payment: American Express, Discover, MasterCard, NYCE, Pulse,
STAR or Visa. The City of Columbia is committed to providing
orderly and efficient services for its customers. LINK2GOV has
helped us honor that commitment by providing Columbia customers
with another option for payment of their water, solid waste and
parking garage bills, said Charles P. Austin, Sr., City Manager,
Columbia, S.C. As for benefits to the city, we predict this phone
payment system will reduce by one-third the volume of calls to the
city's customer service call center, leaving more time for customer
service representatives to handle customers questions about their
water bills. The IVR payment system guides users through the
payment process with voice prompts and provides final confirmation
prior to completing the transaction. LINK2GOV processes payments
instantly, making authorized payment information quickly available
to City of Columbia Water Services. Consumer preference for
payment cards over cash and check continues to grow and its not
limited to the retail space. By using LINK2GOVs IVR payment
option, the City of Columbia is introducing a value-added service
to its residents and satisfying their preference, said Frank
DAngelo, group president, Metavante Payment Solutions. Not only
is IVR convenient for residents, but it enables the City of
Columbia to accelerate cash flow while managing up-front and
ongoing payment expenses. LINK2GOV has been providing customized
electronic service applications for government agencies since 1995.
In addition to the IRS payment services, LINK2GOV also facilitates
the collection of state income taxes, real estate taxes, utility
bills, vehicle registrations, drivers license renewals, parking
tickets, traffic citations, tuition payments, court fees and fines,
hunting and fishing licenses, as well as various business licenses.
