--The U.K. has asked two coal plants to prepare in case they are needed as the country battles sub-zero temperatures and record high power prices, Bloomberg reports.

--The National Grid's electricity system operator said the two winter contingency coal units were put on standby as low wind shrunk the amount the country could generate from renewables, Bloomberg reports.

--With London covered in snow and the cold snap set to last all week, the Met Office has weather warnings for snow and ice in place throughout the U.K. until Thursday, Bloomberg says.
