Central Bank of Russia Expands net.com Promina Backbone to Nearly 100 Nodes inCOMa Grows Multiservice Network Backbone By 20% FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:NWK), a global supplier of communications equipment, announced today that the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) has expanded the footprint of its Promina backbone network by another twenty percent through systems integrator inCOMa, recently adding 19 new nodes and extending into far eastern Russia. Established in 1997 with net.com's IDNX gear and fully upgraded to the Promina multiservice platform over 2003 and 2004, the network now comprises nearly 100 Promina nodes serving the Republic of Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It provides resilient voice and data services over satellite and terrestrial links, including Internet protocol (IP) and frame relay using the Promina FRX module, and voice services with the platform's ISDN PrimeSwitch module. The network, by systems integrators inCOMa and Equant (formerly Sprint Russia and Global One Russia), is operated directly by the CBR, with second- and third-level service provided by the integrators. Mr Mikhail Y. Senatorov, Deputy Chairman, Central Bank of Russia, said, "We are very pleased with our continuing support from net.com. Over the years, the Promina platform has proven to be a highly reliable, flexible solution for us and its no-single-point-of-failure capability supports the mission critical nature of our business. Additionally, the scalable system modules allow us to upgrade without disrupting our network. As we increase our presence in the global marketplace, it is only logical to expand on a Promina backbone." Mr. Gregory Dmitriev, CEO of inCOMa, added, "We are very pleased to work with net.com on the continued expansion and support of the CBR's multiservice network. As an experienced global provider of equipment, we can depend on them to deliver solutions that meet our customers' needs." Promina systems cost-effectively consolidate a variety of user traffic and applications, including voice, video and data, on a single platform. The Promina platform adapts to support new and legacy transport protocols, including TDM, frame relay, ISDN, ATM and IP. While leveraging the bandwidth-on-demand benefits of frame and cell-based solutions, Promina can configure and maintain quality of service guarantees for optimal application transport.
