net.com Partners With Diversified Technology to Develop WHISPER, a Secure Mobile VoIP Platform Focus on Delivering Highly Mobile VoIP Based on the SHOUTIP Open Telephony Platform FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- net.com (NYSE:NWK) and Diversified Technology, LLC announced today that they have teamed to develop a new solution, the WHISPER platform, to support secure, mobile VoIP capabilities based on net.com's award winning SHOUTIP technology for IP telephony. The new Diversified Technology WHISPER Mobile VoIP system, a companion product to the existing net.com SHOUT900 system, leverages net.com's powerful IP telephony tools, including secure VoIP capability for STUII, STUIII and FNBDT (future narrowband data communications) with a new, smaller physical hardware design from the team at Diversified. WHISPER, running the same software as the net.com SHOUT900, enables mobile and remote users to benefit from the strengths of the SHOUTIP platform without having to be tethered to an equipment rack or a fixed location. This development project, in process throughout 2004, is the result of direct customer feedback for an expansion of the application of the SHOUTIP platform in response to net.com's customers' evolving mission requirements. The target customer base includes mobile command centers, battlefield operations and emergency response/restoration teams that have been looking for a means to take the SHOUTIP architecture into the mobile realm. A typical installation of WHISPER would involve multiple mobile units, networked together and connected to a centralized net.com VoIP installation via Diversified's mobile communications reachback system. "Our goal in working with net.com has been to leverage our experience in mobile product packaging onto the SHOUTIP platform for IP telephony - specifically designing a product that would allow net.com to penetrate the mobile VoIP market," said Robert Denson, President of Diversified Technology. "Whisper is smaller and lighter, consumes less power, and includes a rugged packaging option, thus making it ideal for remote secure mobile voice communications over the Internet. Presently undergoing final field tests, the product is scheduled for general availability in Q1 of 2005. Pricing has not yet been released.
