Piper Jaffray Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Mill Valley Film Festival's Children's FilmFest MILL VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Piper Jaffray & Co. is pleased to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Mill Valley Film Festival's Children's FilmFest. The Children's FilmFest is part of the larger California Film Institute's 27th Mill Valley Film Festival taking place October 7-17 at venues throughout southern Marin County. As founding sponsor of the Children's FilmFest, Piper Jaffray has supported for the last decade the Institute's efforts to offer kids quality film programming from around the world with groundbreaking workshops and seminars for young aspiring filmmakers. This year's Children's FilmFest kicks off on Saturday, October 9 with the North American premiere of "Taina 2: A New Amazon Adventure," the sequel to "Taina: An Amazon Adventure." The opening event will include refreshments, balloon sculpting and face painting and the stage show comedy "The Wizard School of Art and Science." The heart of Children's FilmFest, however, is the lineup of workshops and seminars that teach children and young adults the tricks of the filmmaking trade, and give them what is often their first opportunity to make a film and show it to an audience in a theater. In addition, the Children's FilmFest will feature screenings, in some cases with a director and other filmmakers present, of domestic and international films with educational value that are relevant to today's youth. The films and guest speakers engage students, families and artists in discussions on a wide range of socially relevant, multicultural and community issues. Going beyond the FilmFest, the California Film Institute works with Bay Area schools throughout the year to offer various outreach programs that communicate valuable lessons to students and community groups through the rich visual images of film and the people who make them. Similar to the aim of the Children's FilmFest, the Institute's programs strive to foster global awareness and tolerance within our community, while promoting media literacy in youth. Its Outreach Screenings Program enables students to view thoughtful and compelling films from across the globe. These screenings are free to schools throughout the Bay Area and for many children, offer the first opportunity to see a film in a movie theater, let alone a film from a foreign country. Last year, the Institute's outreach programs reached over 3000 students from over 30 Bay Area schools.
