High-Performance Building Congressional Caucus Coalition at a
briefing on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the Rayburn House Office
Building in Washington, DC. Tony Stall, vice president, marketing
and sustainability for Dryvit Systems, and Michael Schmeida,
manager of sustainable programs for Tremco Commercial Sealants and
Waterproofing, will focus on how an efficient building envelope can
reduce structures' energy consumption by up to 40 percent utilizing
technology available today. The building envelope includes roof,
walls, windows, foundation and transitions between these components
where air and moisture can pass. The executives will also discuss
provisions in developing energy legislation that will ensure that
the building envelope is seen as a tool to address energy
efficiency. The program will be moderated by Doug Read, director of
government affairs for ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating,
Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers. Other speakers will
include Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL) and Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-MO),
co-chairs of the High-Performance Building Congressional Caucus
Coalition, and Marc LaFrance, technology development manager for
the Department of Energy. James C. Benney, CAE, of the National
Fenestration Rating Council, will discuss measuring and verifying
the energy efficiency of building components, while Achilles N.
Karagiozis, of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, will cover future objectives for building envelope
