Free event hosted by The Standard connects nonprofits with volunteers and supporters

On Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, Oregon’s largest and longest-running volunteer expo returns to Pioneer Square for its sixth year. The Standard’s Volunteer Expo is a free event that brings more than 125 nonprofits together in one place, helping Portlanders discover volunteer and donation opportunities that fit their skills and interests.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteer Expo attendees can meet with and learn about nonprofits that make a difference in the community. Participating organizations represent a wide variety of focus areas including arts, culture, humanities, the environment, animal welfare, health, human services and more. Whether you’re looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity or a longer-term commitment, the Volunteer Expo is a great way to connect with nonprofits and start making a difference.

“The nonprofit organizations featured at the Volunteer Expo have an invaluable effect on our communities, and they count on public support and involvement to achieve their missions,” said Greg Ness, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard. “At The Standard, we’re proud to host the annual Volunteer Expo because when businesses, nonprofits and community members connect, everyone wins.”

In partnership with New Avenues for Youth, Ben & Jerry’s PartnerShop Scoop Shop will be back at the 2014 Volunteer Expo, offering a free scoop of ice cream to attendees who connect with five or more nonprofits during the event. Pick up a Connect Card on arrival at the event and collect stamps as you visit the nonprofit booths, then redeem the five stamps at the Ben & Jerry’s booth.

The Volunteer Expo kicks off The Standard’s annual Employee Giving Campaign. The campaign takes place Sept. 8 through 26 and encourages company employees to support nonprofit organizations of their choosing. The Standard matches those contributions up to $5,000 per employee. Last year, employees raised more than $1.6 million (including The Standard’s dollar-for-dollar match), impacting more than 1,100 organizations.

The 2014 Volunteer Expo takes place Thursday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 SW Sixth Avenue. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Learn more at www.standard.com/volunteer.
