Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase TechWave Conference --
Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), a leading provider of enterprise
infrastructure and mobile software, and BMC Software, Inc.
(NYSE:BMC), a leading provider of enterprise management solutions,
today announced an extension of their strategic alliance to offer
customers a total systems management solution including database,
backup and recovery tools. The combination of BMC(R) SQL- BackTrack
and Sybase(R) Adaptive Server(R) Enterprise (ASE), will not only
deliver database and systems management tools from a single vendor,
but will also provide online object-level operations for the Sybase
platform, simplifying the backup and recovery process and providing
optimal availability and maximum protection against lost data.
Additionally, the joint solutions help enable Business Service
Management (BSM) by providing IT the tools it needs to deliver
service availability and continuity. BMC SQL-Backtrack was chosen
by Sybase as an enhanced backup and recovery solution to be coupled
with Sybase ASE. Under the agreement, BMC SQL- BackTrack will be
shipped to customers who purchase the new enhanced backup option
for ASE from Sybase. "As a leading high performance database
provider, Sybase is committed to bringing our customers the best
systems management tools available to ensure their lowest total

Information Technology Solutions Group. "Together Sybase and BMC

contact, simplifying the buying and support process for our
customers." Customers, such as BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee,
believe the partnership provides the right tools for their IT
needs. "Partnerships between companies like BMC and Sybase help
make my job easier. The promise of enhanced cooperation between the
companies for cross-product compatibility and the potential for
economies of scale is highly reassuring," said Dean Holland, Senior

making sure our systems are up and running 24 hours per day seven
days per week for quick and easy access by our customers is
critical to our business and our reputation for providing quality
service. Having products like BMC SQL- BackTrack and ASE that work
in tandem help ensure that our IT operations truly support our
business functions." The combined solution enables customers to
automate database administration tasks associated with backup and
recovery across the enterprise to maximize availability. Together,
BMC SQL-BackTrack and Sybase ASE provide customers: * Centralized
backup and recovery across the enterprise, to include
business-relevant policy compliance management, reporting, and
trending; * Time savings through archive log management and
automated database duplication to local and remote hosts; * Object
level recovery from physical backups; * Improved performance during
backups through parallel backup streams and data compression; and *
Organizational preparedness through dry-run backup and recovery
features. "Our expanded partnership not only provides a powerful
systems management offering from a single point of contact, but
also positively positions users for achieving BSM through
infrastructure, database, and application management," said Mary
