Certifications Pave the Way for Sybase to Drive RFID Adoption
Through Worldwide Customer Initiative DUBLIN, Calif., Jan. 23
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), the largest
global enterprise software company exclusively focused on managing
and mobilizing information, today announced that with its RFID
Anywhere(TM) 2.0 solution, Sybase is one of the first middleware
providers to achieve certified integration with SAP's AII (Auto-ID
Infrastructure), a comprehensive auto-ID middleware solution that
connects RFID data and integrates the data directly into enterprise
applications. The integration between the two solutions will allow
SAP customers to access and manage data collected at the edge of
their enterprises, and coordinate and manage the wide variety of
RFID readers and printers (including both EPC and ISO standards),
barcode scanners, sensors including temperature sensors, and PLCs
(programmable logic controllers) supported by Sybase. Leveraging
the synergies created through these new interfaces, Sybase will
work with SAP to offer customers robust data collection, device
management and enterprise application suite solutions, through a
joint global customer initiative. Mal Postings, Partner for
Worldwide RFID and Mobility, Capgemini stated, "We believe that
using SAP's AII and interfacing with the Sybase(R) RFID
infrastructure suite will provide customers with maximum
flexibility when selecting hardware standards, vendors and devices,
and managing distributed RFID environments that frequently involve
suppliers, buyers, and retailers simultaneously. Relationships like
the SAP/Sybase combination will help transform the early entrant
pilot activities into enterprise wide supply chain operational
systems." "Together, SAP and Sybase offer robust, production-grade
RFID solutions that can be implemented much more quickly and easier
than ever before," said Thomas Volk, executive vice president of
International Field Operations, Sybase, Inc. "We look forward to
working with SAP to provide our customers with superior technology
and successful RFID implementations through this team effort."
About RFID Anywhere and SAP Auto-ID As RFID technology has evolved,
a major hurdle for early adopters has been the proliferation of
various standards and protocols. RFID Anywhere 2.0 provides
management capabilities for configuring, monitoring and
provisioning RFID networks from proof-of-concept to enterprise-wide
deployment, and supports the broadest range of protocols and
standards and offers comprehensive role-based security that
enterprises require. SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure gives enterprises
the capabilities needed to integrate all automated communication
and sensing devices -- including RFID readers and printers,
Bluetooth devices, embedded systems, and bar-code devices. SAP AII
also integrates intelligent controls such as programmable language
controls and Savant technologies, ensuring comprehensive device
integration. About Sybase, Inc. Sybase is the largest global
enterprise software company exclusively focused on managing and
mobilizing information from the data center to the point of action.
