RemoteWare 4.3 Delivers New Remote Control Solution and New
Architecture, Bringing Greater Efficiency and Reliability for High
Transaction Volumes Over Fast Networks DUBLIN, Calif., Jan. 16
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase iAnywhere today announced the
general availability of RemoteWare(R) 4.3. The latest version of
the company's industry-leading retail polling, file transfer, and
content distribution solution includes new architecture and hot
fixes, as well as Remote Control features that offer the option to
interactively train end-users on new applications or troubleshoot
specific devices. RemoteWare is trusted by more than 850 retail and
hospitality companies worldwide to get their business-critical data
and content where it's needed, when it's needed. Key retail and
hospitality customers like Panda Restaurants, Royal Caribbean
Cruise Lines and Stage Stores rely on RemoteWare to move critical
sales data between remote sites and headquarters. "With RemoteWare
4.3, it's easy for administrators to consistently poll hundreds or
thousands of retail stores every night," said Joe Owen, vice
president, engineering, Sybase iAnywhere. "This is a huge advantage
for companies who need to support a variety of retail applications
running on Windows, Linux, Unix, IBM 4690 store systems over
existing IP, VSAT or dial networks." "We're very excited to offer
the new Remote Control features to our RemoteWare customers," said
Jeff Pack, senior manager of Remote Systems Management for
Stratapult, a long-time strategic Sybase iAnywhere partner. "They
will now be able to remotely troubleshoot their store point-of-sale
systems, enabling better cashier support which ultimately improves
the customer experience." RemoteWare 4.3 introduces new
architecture that provides greater efficiency and reliability for
Sybase iAnywhere customers, particularly for high transaction
volumes over fast networks. In addition, this version incorporates
a roll-up of hot fixes since the 4.2 release. Significant new
features are detailed below: New Remote Control Solution Real-time
remote control capability for Windows(R)-based PCs and Point of
Sale devices expands the existing management capabilities of
RemoteWare. Complimenting RemoteWare's robust, proactive device
management model, Remote Control offers the option to interactively
train end users on new applications or troubleshoot specific
devices. Users can connect to their devices via TCP/IP or dial
networks. All communications between the administrator console and
frontline client machines are secured using powerful AES
encryption. Administrators can also select from a variety of
configuration options that will optimize sessions for best
efficiency and security in their network environment. With
RemoteWare Remote Control, frontline users always have ready access
to both training and resolution of critical issues to help them
remain productive. New Architecture RemoteWare 4.3 introduces a new
method for storing and sharing real-time session control data that
significantly improves stability for high transaction volume
customers who poll thousands of locations. With 4.3, RemoteWare's
powerful and flexible Scheduler now maintains active session
control data in a SQL database instead of in indexed files.
RemoteWare 4.3 allows administrators to easily create work objects
to automate critical retail processes such as collecting daily
sales and weekly timesheet data, distributing price file updates,
or applying system patches. For example, administrators can easily
assign work objects to the appropriate clients and then schedule
the sessions to run based on a variety of criteria including day of
week, calendar or tied to the existing end of day process. Once
created, RemoteWare uses the Scheduler to manage session schedules
and execute sessions at the scheduled time. Scheduler matches
sessions to available resources, maintains the queues to minimize
polling time, and provides information about which objects will
execute when the session runs. Hot Fix Roll-up Version 4.3 includes
a roll-up of hot fixes introduced since release 4.2. Important hot
fixes resolve async inbound errors, server stability under heavy
load, IBM 4690 client issues and multicast errors. Availability
RemoteWare 4.3 is now generally available. To sign up for a Webcast
