Tyler expands presence in California to include
largest state bar in the country
Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) signed an agreement with
The State Bar of California for Tyler’s Odyssey integrated suite of
justice solutions including Attorney Manager™, Case Manager™, and
Supervision™. The State Bar of California is the largest state bar
in the country. Tyler’s Odyssey is also live in superior courts in
24 counties throughout California.
The State Bar of California is an administrative arm of the
California Supreme Court, protecting the public and seeking to
improve the justice system. All attorneys practicing law in
California must be licensed by The State Bar. The project will
involve about 300 employees in three departments of The State Bar:
the Office of Chief Trial Counsel (OCTC), the State Bar Court, and
the Office of Probation.
“We look forward to helping The State Bar create efficiencies
across their various departments in support of its mission to
protect the public through the regulation and discipline of
attorneys,” said Bruce Graham, president of Tyler's Courts &
Justice Division. “We are excited to enhance the administration of
justice across California through our first State Bar
deployment.”
“The new case management system at The State Bar will bring
greater transparency and accountability to The State Bar’s
regulation of attorneys, as well as improving our efforts to track
and respond to the growing problem of the unauthorized practice of
law,” said Leah Wilson, chief operating officer for The State Bar
of California. “We chose a technology that offers the best value to
achieve the bar’s public protection mission in the most efficient
and effective way.”
Tyler’s footprint in California is substantial and includes
large counties such as Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego and San
Bernardino. Many of the counties use Odyssey for multiple case
types, including civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal,
traffic and adoption. Many of the counties using Odyssey also
benefit from Tyler’s e-filing solution, Odyssey File & Serve™ –
known in California as eFileCA. Odyssey serves more than 100
million residents, approximately a third of the U.S. population, in
more than 900 counties across 24 states. With more than 550
full-time employees dedicated to courts and justice solutions,
Tyler has the capability to manage dozens of Odyssey client
implementations concurrently.
