Wilmington Trust announced today that Rita C. Turner, executive
vice president and head of the companys Client Services
department, has been selected to receive U.S. Banker magazines
Marjorie Magner Lifetime Achievement Award. According to editors,
the national award is given annually to one woman in the banking
industry whose outstanding personal and professional achievements
over the course of her career are marked by a demonstrated ability
to inspire excellence in others and an unrelenting commitment to
use her influence to support education, equal opportunity, and
diversity within corporate America and communities locally,
regionally, or nationally. It is named in honor of Marjorie Magner,
former chairman and CEO of Citigroups Global Consumer Group, and
will be given in conjunction with U.S. Bankers 25 Most Powerful
Women in Banking, the 25 Women to Watch, and the Top 3 Banking
Teams rankings at a black-tie gala in New York on October 20th.
Ritas accomplishments have been instrumental to the success of
Wilmington Trust over the long term, and the commitment she has
demonstrated throughout her career to community service
organizations is equally impressive, said Robert V.A. Harra Jr.,
president and chief operating officer of Wilmington Trust. With
high moral character, she leads by example. She inspires people
around her to be purposeful and successful in everything they do at
work and in the community. Rita is a talented executive and a
genuine humanitarian, and we could not be more proud of her. We
thank U.S. Banker for this well-deserved recognition. Ms. Turner,
a native of Philadelphia, has spent her entire career at Wilmington
Trust. She joined the company in 1973 in a clerical position and
steadily advanced through the years. She has served on the
companys executive management team since 1996 and has led a number
of strategic initiatives that have helped Wilmington Trust grow
from a small Delaware-based bank to an international financial
services company. During her 21-year tenure as the head of
Marketing, Ms. Turner led Wilmington Trusts first comprehensive
brand management program, developed and implemented award-winning
marketing campaigns, and helped launch the companys web site and
online banking services. In addition, she has led the establishment
and development of several firsts at Wilmington Trust, including
the Community Reinvestment Act program and a company-wide vendor
management program. Today, Ms. Turner oversees Wilmington Trusts
banking operations; client services; risk management activities,
including compliance with federally mandated regulatory programs;
and a centralized project management office. Beyond her
responsibilities at Wilmington Trust, Ms. Turner also contributes
her time and talents to the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, where she
serves on the board of directors, and Wilmingtons Grand Opera
House, where she is a trustee. In addition, Ms. Turner is a regular
volunteer for the YWCA Delaware, which has honored her by naming a
community service award the Rita Turner Award. She also was part
of the national YWCAs branding efforts that produced a new logo
prominently featuring its mission: Eliminating Racism and
Empowering Women. Ms. Turner has served as chairman of the board of
the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula, is a founding
member of the Advisory Board of the LPGA Urban Youth Golf Program
