BioFocus to Consolidate Operations in Cambridge Area

BioFocus today announced its intention to consolidate the Sittingbourne
operation at its Chesterford Park location.

The consolidation will see the relocation of staff from its Sittingbourne
premises to Chesterford Park. Operations on the Sittingbourne site will close
by the end of 2003.

Over the past 12 months, the company has looked at various options to bring its
operations together, including the building of a new facility. The change in
the biotech property market has enabled BioFocus to negotiate Heads of Terms for
a 5-year lease on an existing building at Chesterford Park, which has become
available as a result of the downsizing of another company. Consequently, the
cost of this exercise will be reduced from an anticipated #4-5m to less than
#1m.

The Company will continue to operate its Biology division from the existing
facility on the Cambridge Science Park.

Commenting on this, Geoff McMillan, Chief Executive, stated "The unanticipated
availability of suitable laboratory and office space next to our existing
premises at Chesterford Park presents a great opportunity to accelerate the
consolidation of our business into the Cambridge area. It will also provide
sufficient growth potential and enable us to realise both scientific and
business synergies. We will incur a one off restructuring and refurbishing
charge in 2003 which should not exceed #1m, however we will not now need to
incur the cost of building a new facility, as previously planned. Operating
costs will also be held at current levels."
