Major hotel companies are waiving cancellation fees for guests
who planned to stay at their hotels in Mexico in response to the
swine-flu crisis.
InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (IHG.LN) is waiving
cancellation fees for its lodging guests in Mexico and will waive
fees for guests in the U.S and Canada "on a case-by-case basis,"
said Carolyn Hergert, InterContinental Hotels spokeswoman.
Hergert said InterContinental Hotels has seen a rise in
cancellations at its Mexico properties, but hasn't received any
reports of swine-flu contagion at those hotels.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (HOT) also said it
will waive penalties for cancelling or changing reservations at its
owned and managed properties in Mexico between April 25 and May
6.
"At this time, we have seen no material cancellations as we
continue to closely monitor the travel situation," the company said
in a statement.
Hyatt Corp. is also waiving its fees in Mexico.
