RipCode Collaborates With Harris Corporation on Initial TransAct
Transcoder V6 Deployment RICHARDSON, Texas, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ --
RipCode, Inc., the leader in transactional transcoding, announced
today its newest product, the TransAct Transcoder V6. The company
is working closely with international communications and
information technology leader Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), which
has successfully bid and won a recent high-profile, live
streaming-to-mobile application using the Transcoder V6. The drive
to enable video content -- including entertainment, commerce,
educational and surveillance -- across TV, desktop and mobile
devices is fueling the need for fast, easy, high-quality and
cost-effective transcoding. Further, the breadth of encoding
technologies, trend toward higher-viewing resolutions, and growing
number of video capable devices -- particularly in the mobile world
-- show no sign of consolidating any time soon. These trends,
compounded with the need for real-time processing, quality
delivery, monetization, policy control to preserve last mile
bandwidth, and the advent of newer silicon and processing
architectures, have led RipCode to introduce the TransAct
Transcoder V6. When coupled with other RipCode TransAct solution
components, the V6 enables turnkey "transactional" video
transcoding for any on-demand or live transcoding application. "The
V6 enables us to expand our transactional transcoding to a broader
set of applications, and at the same time, fully utilize our
TransAct solution portfolio," stated Brendon Mills, CEO of RipCode.
"We are excited by early customer feedback around both its
capabilities and performance attributes, as well as the commercial
traction the product is already seeing for deployments this
quarter." The V6 is RipCode's latest transcoding appliance,
following in the footsteps of the commercially deployed V4 and V5.
It leverages transcoding solution software from RipCode's
predecessor transcoding appliances, but is equipped with a more
powerful and flexible processing core. This combination greatly
increases codec flexibility, concurrency, video processing
functions and higher resolutions, including 1080i/p high
definition. Further, the V6 supports a rich suite of integrated
video delivery options, including RTSP, Multi-rate RTSP, HTTP
Progressive Download, iPhone 3.0 HTTP Live Streaming and Microsoft
Smooth Streaming. Harris Corporation is actively deploying
RipCode's V6 in applications that require mobile, stream-to-stream
capabilities. The company also plans to collaborate with RipCode to
reach an even broader set of entertainment, defense and commercial
opportunities. "This product has the flexibility, concurrency,
resolution and video quality characteristics that our customers
expect -- all in a compact, cost-effective and easy-to-deploy
appliance," said Brian Cabeceiras, Vice President, Strategic
Marketing and Technology, Harris Broadcast Communications. "The
transcoding market is moving beyond its traditional batch
file-to-file and live encoding 'box' heritage into a multi-service
content delivery platform - which enables consumption across new
mobile and portable devices, increasing focus on diversified
content monetization, and large video libraries to be unleashed by
on demand delivery. These newer requirements will severely tax
traditional solutions," said Greg Ireland, Research Manager,
Consumer Markets: Video, IDC. "As content services evolve,
transcoding solutions designed to enable emerging distribution,
consumption, and monetization scenarios will be strongly positioned
in the market." The Transcoder V6 has begun shipping for trials and
initial deployment, and is scheduled for general availability in
mid-December. The product is available in a number of commercial
deployment options, including the base appliance at a US list price
of $37,000. About RipCode RipCode is the market leader in
