                             THE PEACOCK GROUP PLC
                           WOOLWORTHS BIG W CONTRACT


The Peacock Group plc ("Peacocks" & "the Company") is pleased to announce that
it has now formally renewed its contract with Woolworths plc ("Woolworths"), a
subsidiary of Woolworths Group plc, to supply its large out-of-town format
stores, Woolworths big W.  The new contract, effective from August 2003, covers
a 3-year period to August 2006 and provides for Peacocks to supply its ranges
into all existing and new Woolworths big W stores.


Peacocks is currently represented in all 18 Woolworths big W stores and will
participate in the 3 openings planned in 2003. The trial of a limited range of
Peacocks merchandise in several Woolworths Mainchain stores, started in 2002,
has been terminated.


Commenting on the agreement Richard Kirk, Chief Executive of Peacocks, said: 
"Woolworths big W is an exciting format with good potential for expansion once
fully proven.  We are delighted to confirm our long term partnership with
Woolworths and look forward to building on the progress that has been achieved
so far."


Commenting on the agreement Trevor Bish-Jones, CEO of Woolworths Group plc,

Woolworths big W stores.  The structure of our new deal gives more visibility
and accountability over the performance of the clothing ranges which is key to
our remit of providing excellence in value for money retailing".
