PSEG Offers Volunteer Grants to Nonprofits NEWARK, N.J., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PSEG is currently accepting applications for its 2004 Recognizing Excellence in Volunteerism grant program. Competitive grants are available for qualified nonprofit organizations where PSEG employees volunteer. Up to 17 grants will be awarded this year, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. An independent panel from the business and nonprofit communities will review all applications. Awards will be based on overall service, duration and quality of volunteer work. Last year's grants were awarded to organizations such as the New Jersey State Elks Handicapped Children's Committee, March of Dimes, various Little Leagues, Boy Scouts of America, Rescue Squads and New Jersey Blood Services, among others. The grant program is PSEG's way of recognizing and thanking its employees for their efforts in the community. For example, PSEG employee Gert Zdanowski received a 2003 award for her work with the Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation. Gert summed up her volunteer work this way: "Just to know that the quality of life is improved for so many adults and children throughout the world is reward enough, and volunteering definitely holds high priority for me, as I enjoy helping others." She credits the Colonia Chapter by saying, "This is made possible through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, who work tirelessly to raise funds to help make this possible." Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation received a $1,000 Recognizing Excellence in Volunteerism grant on Gert's behalf. PSEG invites nonprofits to nominate PSEG employees who volunteer with their organizations for a Recognizing Excellence in Volunteerism grant.
