Board Strengthened with Two Non-Executive Board Appointments
John Padfield and Simon Constantine to join Profile
Profile Therapeutics plc ("Profile"), which develops and commercialises
specialist inhaled therapies to improve treatment for respiratory patients,
today announces a significant strengthening of its Board. Dr John Padfield and
Simon Constantine joined the Board as Non-Executive Directors on 18 February
2003.
Dr John Padfield
John Padfield (56) was until December 2002 Chief Executive Officer of Amersham
Health and Director of Amersham plc, a FTSE 100 company. He is Chairman of
Lorantis Holdings Limited, a private company working on the selective treatment
of immunological and inflammatory diseases based on immune regulation.
John is well known and respected throughout the pharmaceutical, biotechnology
and diagnostics industries. He has gained extensive global, public company
board-level experience through having worked in high profile roles over the last
25 years. John's executive experience, prior to joining Amersham, included
serving for five years as Chief Executive of Chiroscience Group plc until its
merger with Celltech, and the combined company is now one of the UK's leading
biotechnology companies; as well as a variety of senior positions within Glaxo
plc over 15 years, prior to its merger with SmithKlineBeecham.
Additional areas that John is involved with include being a Council Member of
the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council; he was also a
Director and Chairman of the BIA (1995 to 1999) and between 1998 and 2002 he was
on the Board of IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Simon Constantine
Simon Constantine (43) brings 13 years of public company board-level experience
in healthcare companies. Simon co-led the management buy-in of listed healthcare
company, Life Sciences International plc, and negotiated its ultimate sale ten
years later. Over that time, he was instrumental in growing this business
internationally from a value of #20 million to #235 million when it was acquired
by a US Corporation in the late 1990s. Simon then spent three years working in a
range of private businesses as Chairman, where he was responsible for developing
strategy, building up teams and managing change in order to secure faster growth
and greater profitability. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of BIOQUELL
PLC.
Simon is a Chartered Accountant, qualifying with KPMG in 1983.
Commenting on these high profile appointments Mark Kirby, Executive Chairman of
Profile, said:
"I am delighted that two such high calibre, industry-respected individuals have
agreed to join Profile. The Group is currently at an extremely exciting stage in
its development with the next few years being critical to guaranteeing our
future success and adding significant shareholder value. The wealth of business
experience and sector expertise that we will gain from having John and Simon on
our Board will be a great asset to Profile and I look forward to working with
them."
