Timothy P. Knight Named Newsday President, COO; John McKeon Returns as Executive VP and General Manager LONG ISLAND, N.Y., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsday today announced that Timothy P. Knight has been promoted to president and chief operating officer. Knight, 38, joined Newsday as executive vice president and general manager in February 2003. Previously, he served as vice president/strategic marketing, development and finance for the Chicago Tribune. He also was responsible for the newspaper's interactive operations. From 1998 to 2001, Knight was vice president/strategy and development of Tribune Publishing Company. In that position he oversaw acquisitions, strategic planning and development projects. "In the nearly year and a half Tim Knight has been with Newsday, he has been instrumental in helping to shape the plan that will take Newsday into the future," said Raymond A. Jansen, Newsday's publisher and chief executive officer. "Tim Knight has done a remarkable job in the short time he's been with Newsday," said Jack Fuller, president of Tribune Publishing. "He has been especially strong in confronting the circulation reporting issues the paper has faced recently. He is one of the company's promising next generation leaders." Newsday also announced that John McKeon, senior vice president and general manager of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, will rejoin the newspaper as executive vice president and general manager. McKeon, 47, was Newsday's senior vice president/advertising when he left the paper in 1998 after 12 years to take a similar position with the Los Angeles Times. He joined the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in 2001 as senior vice president/general manager. "Bringing John McKeon back to Newsday will substantially strengthen our management team," Jansen said. Both promotions are effective immediately. Knight will continue reporting to Jansen, along with editor Howard Schneider, editorial page editor James Klurfeld and Newsday interactive general manager, Anthony Wills. McKeon will report to Knight, along with the finance and human resources departments. All other business departments will report to McKeon.
