Recipe Competition Hosted on FoodNetwork.com Recognizes Creators of
Winning 30-minute Meal Solutions BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Oct. 23
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Complicated recipes collect dust when the
family schedule is dominated by work and the kids' activities.
Seeking to help consumers identify easy-to-prepare, high-quality
dinnertime solutions, Whirlpool(R) brand and Newman's Own(R) joined
forces to launch the Let's Eat In recipe contest, hosted on
FoodNetwork.com. After careful consideration, the Let's Eat In
judges have selected five winners from among scores of
mouthwatering meal ideas that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less
without sacrificing taste or quality. (Logo:

"According to a recent study, most families eat together four
evenings a week," said Laura Smith Wade, senior home economist for
Whirlpool brand. "Knowing that eating those meals at home can help
stretch the dollar, Whirlpool brand partnered with Newman's Own to
help at-home cooks create fast, wallet-friendly, and great-tasting
meals. Our Let's Eat In contest winners submitted easy-to-prepare,
tasty recipes that have become their respective families'
favorites." Let's Eat In challenged consumers to create a
family-friendly dish, incorporating at least one Newman's Own
product, in less than 30 minutes. The Grand Prize Winner, April
Landman of Las Vegas, Nev., wowed the judges with her Super Gyro
Tzatziki Salad that incorporated Newman's Own Herb and Roasted
Garlic Marinade and can be prepared in fewer than 25 minutes.
Submitted in the light meal category, Super Gyro Tzatziki Salad
combines grilled steak, flavored with Newman's Own Herb and Roasted
Garlic Marinade, and pita bread over a salad featuring lettuce,
chopped cucumber, red peppers, olives, onion, tomatoes, and feta
cheese. A dressing consisting of yogurt, garlic, paprika, lime
vinaigrette, and grated cucumber tops the meal. "I've been making
this very fulfilling and healthy dish for years," said Landman. "It
never takes much time and the entire family enjoys it at our own
kitchen table -- and saves money compared to meals out or
delivery." As the grand prize winner, Landman will receive a
Whirlpool brand suite of kitchen appliances and a year's supply of
Newman's Own products. In addition, Whirlpool brand and Newman's
Own awarded a gas or electric range and a six-month supply of
Newman's Own products to four other contestants in separate
categories: -- Kathleen Boulanger, Williston, Vt., received the top
prize in the Main Dish category for her dish, Stuffed Lamb
Scallopini. -- Kathi Jones-Del Monte, Rochester, N.Y., received the
top prize in the Light Meal category for her dish, Red Bean and
Beet Salad. -- Greg Fontenot, The Woodlands, Texas, received the
top prize in the Sides category for his dish, Wilted Spinach Salad.
-- Donna-Marie Ryan, Topsfield, Mass., received the top prize in
the One Dish Wonders Category for her dish, Italian Marinara
Ratatouille. Nearly 2000 recipes were submitted, demonstrating that
a few fresh ingredients and a bit of ingenuity can go a long way
each night -- and that eating in has never been easier. About
Whirlpool Brand Cooking With annual sales of approximately $19
billion and more than 73,000 employees, Whirlpool Corporation is
the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of major home
appliances. Whirlpool brand continued its cadence of innovation
with the industry's largest over-the-range SpeedCook oven, the
Whirlpool Gold(R) Velos(R) oven, which combines the power of an
oven with the convenience of a microwave, allowing consumers to
grill, broil, bake and steam. As testament to the brand's consumer
insight, the first range designed specifically for the Hispanic
consumer with controls in English and Spanish, as well as a comal
for heating tortillas, was created for the fastest growing segment
of the American population. The brand pioneered the Polara(R)
range, the world's first refrigerated range which combined an
oven's food preparation properties with the preservation features
of a refrigerator. For additional information regarding Whirlpool
