MONTREAL, May 22, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce a philanthropic commitment of $500,000 over 10 years to the Fondation et Alumni de Polytechnique Montréal towards the Research Chair in International Project Management and the SNC-Lavalin Scholarship Fund.

The Jarislowsky SNC-Lavalin Research Chair in International Project Management focuses on multidisciplinary research and a training program that considers the processes, calculation methods and information systems used to plan and monitor highly technical and complex engineering projects.

Since March 2015, the SNC-Lavalin Masters' Scholarship has been awarded annually to a Canadian student wishing to conduct research on one of the Chair's themes in the engineering services or construction sector.

"As a leading global engineering and project management consultancy, our work impacts hundreds of communities around the world. We have a role to play in developing the next generation of engineers and this contribution will play a role in fulfilling that goal," said Erik Ryan, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Strategy and External Relations, SNC-Lavalin.

"Applauded by the industry, the Chair's training and research activities have trained researchers and engineers who play a key role in planning projects all around the world, as evidenced by the very high placement rate and the quality of the jobs obtained by our graduates. SNC-Lavalin's philanthropic support will allow us to continue this very successful initiative," declared François Bertrand, Senior Vice-President and Vice-President Academic and Research, Polytechnique Montréal.

The donation will also be used to create a capitalized Fund through which the new SNC-Lavalin Scholarships, offered under the Polytechnique Montréal Industrial Internship Program, will be awarded on a permanent basis.

"We are very pleased that this philanthropic project has come to fruition. It will support cutting-edge research and training, as well as provide major support to the scientific community and the next generation of engineers," said Isabelle Péan, Chief Executive Officer, Fondation et Alumni de Polytechnique Montréal.

SNC-Lavalin has also made the same commitment to the University of Waterloo. The funds will be earmarked for the university's engineering education and research program for the next ten years. Additionally, SNC-Lavalin's Engineering, Design and Project Management business in the United Kingdom has sponsored the appointment of Professor Paul Theron at Cranfield University as the Atkins-Cranfield Professor of Cyber-Secure Engineering Systems and Processes.

SNC-Lavalin's approach to donations and sponsorships aims to support ideas and initiatives with the potential to stimulate progress and build the future. Its goal is to have a positive impact on communities, learning and innovation.
