MMX Minas-Rio Receives the Construction License for Its Slurry Pipeline

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (BOVESPA: MMXM3) (TSX: XMM), in
compliance with article 157 of Law 6,404/76, and CVM Instruction
358/02, hereby makes the following public announcement:
The Ibama-Federal Environmental Agency issued on March 7, 2008
the Construction License 492/2008 to MMX Minas-Rio Minera��o S.A.
("MMX Minas-Rio"), a Company's subsidiary, authorizing the opening
of the construction work site, the pipe storage yard and the access
to pumping station 01 of the MMX Minas-Rio slurry pipeline
("Pipeline").
The Pipeline will connect the MMX Minas-Rio mines, located in
the state of Minas Gerais, to the A�u Port, a Port Terminal that is
under construction by LLX Minas-Rio Log�stica Comercial Exportadora
S.A. ("LLX Minas-Rio"), on the northeast of the State of Rio de
Janeiro. The Pipeline will initially have the capacity to transport
26.6 million tons of pellet feed per year and will cover a distance
of 525km, crossing 32 municipalities.
The issuance of the Construction License enables MMX Minas-Rio
to prepare for the construction of the project. All other civil
works along the Pipeline course will commence as soon as the
complementary environmental license for the full construction is
granted.
The Company owns 51% of the shares of capital stock of MMX
Minas-Rio and 51% of LLX Minas-Rio, through its subsidiary LLX
Log�stica S.A.
