German airline carrier Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LHA.XE) said Tuesday it has applied with the Austrian Takeover Commission to extend the deadline to meet conditions for its takeover of Austrian Airlines AG (AUA.VI).

Currently, Lufthansa must meet preconditions for the takeover by July 31. It's clear that an agreement with the European Commission is achievable, but formal approval can't be obtained in due time, Lufthansa said in a press release.

Therefore Lufthansa, together with Oesterreichischen Industrieholding (OeiAG), has requested the Austrian authorities extend the deadline to Aug. 31.
