Messina Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE: MMI) has received results and
assays from three drill holes testing the Hurricane massive
sulphide target 500 meters from Boomerang within its Tulks South
Property located in central Newfoundland, Canada.
Messina has also received assays from prospecting in the
vicinity of Hurricane conducted prior to the beginning of
drilling.
Summary Results
Holes GA10-272 and GA10-274 intersected Hurricane massive
sulphide zinc-lead-copper-silver-gold mineralization and GA10-273
intersected zinc-enriched stringer stockwork at approx.200 meters
below surface.
GA10-274 intersected massive sulphide mineralization assaying
8.5% zinc, 4.7% lead, 1.5% copper, 288 g/t silver and 1.0 g/t gold
over 1.1 meters from 269.4 meters on 4050E at 210 meters vertical
depth.
GA10-272 intersected massive sulphide mineralization assaying
7.9% zinc, 5.1% lead, 0.7% copper, 52 g/t silver and 0.3 g/t gold
over 0.5 meters from 224.6 meters on 3950E at 185 meters vertical
depth.
This phase of drilling confirms continuity of zinc-enriched
massive sulphide mineralization at Hurricane between 3900E and
4100E and suggests the mineralization may continue to shallower
depths and along strike to the east.
One sample collected from a approx.50lb boulder of massive
sulphides located 2 km northeast of the Hurricane prospect assayed
9.7% copper, 14.3% lead, 1.0% zinc, 239 g/t silver, and 2.1 g/t
gold. The source of this mineralization has not been located. The
assay is significant for the high copper content and highlights the
prospectivity of the property for copper-enriched deposits.
Hurricane Drilling
Messina's drilling discovered the "Hurricane target" in 2006 by
intersection of zinc-lead enriched massive sulphides on 4100E and
in 2007 on 3900E over 200 meters length. Hurricane is located 500
meters along strike to the northeast of Boomerang greater than 10%
zinc-lead mineral resources (see details in NR November 24, 2010)
at approximately 200 meters depth below surface. The best hole of
eight (prior to this program) in GA07-214 intersected 13.2 meters
massive sulphides assaying 14.7% zinc, 9.5% lead, 1.7% copper, 231
g/t silver and 1.1 g/t gold on 3900E at 250 meters below
surface.
The primary objective of the December 2010 drilling tested for
continuity of Hurricane mineralization over a 150 meter strike
length between 3950E and 4050E at 50 meter spacing. Three drill
holes were completed totalling 950 meters.
Two of three holes intersected massive sulphide
zinc-lead-copper-silver-gold mineralization.
GA10-272 on 3950E at 185 meters below surface intersected
massive sulphides assaying 7.9% zinc, 5.1% lead, 0.7% copper, 52
g/t silver and 0.3 g/t gold over 0.5 meters from 224.6 meters. A
second semi-massive sulphide zone assayed 4.1% zinc, 1.6% lead,
0.3% copper, 23 g/t silver and 0.2 g/t gold over 4.5 meters from
236.3 meters.
GA10-273 on 4000E intersected anomalous zinc-enriched stringer
stockwork over 9.0 meters from 259.9 meters.
GA10-274 on 4050E at 210 meters below surface intersected
massive sulphide mineralization assaying 8.5% zinc, 4.7% lead, 1.5%
copper, 288 g/t silver and 1.0 g/t gold over 1.1 meters from 269.4
meters.
This phase of drilling confirms continuity of zinc-enriched
massive sulphide mineralization at Hurricane between 3900E and
4100E and suggests the mineralization continues to shallower depths
and along strike to the east.
Prospecting
A total of 43 prospecting samples were collected and assayed
from a 5km by 2 km area centred on the Hurricane target. The most
significant result is from one sample collected from a approx.50lb
boulder of massive sulphides located 2 km northeast of the
Hurricane prospect assayed 9.7% copper, 14.3% lead, 1.0% zinc, 239
g/t silver, and 2.1 g/t gold.
Six other base metal enriched massive sulphide boulders located
previously in the area by Messina have assayed between 5.3% to 9.7%
copper with no appreciable lead and between 0.2 g/t to 0.6 g/t
gold.
No source for any of this mineralization has been located
although these results continue to indicate prospectivity for
copper-enriched massive sulphides.
Peter Tallman, President and CEO states, "Drilling has now
documented continuity of Hurricane zinc-enriched massive sulphides
over 250 meters from 3850E to 4100E with 50 meter spaced drill
holes in 10 of 11 holes drilled. Results from these recent holes
support Messina's new (2009/10) geological interpretation
suggesting Hurricane gets shallower to the east. Additional
drilling is required as the Hurricane zone remains open for
expansion."
Protocols
Specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility, RQD testing and
photographic logging is completed on whole core prior to sampling.
Drill core is cut in half with a diamond saw and half the core was
submitted to Eastern Analytical of Springdale, NF for analysis. All
samples were assayed for gold by fire assay - atomic absorption
finish, plus copper, lead, zinc, and silver by ICP (inductively
coupled plasma). 'Over-limit' results using the ICP method were
analyzed by assay techniques standard to that element. Pulps and
coarse rejects from these samples are returned to Messina. Pulps
are re-assayed by Chemex Labs of North Vancouver for check assays.
Messina uses protocols standard to the industry and professional
QA/QC procedures for assaying including the use of internal and
external reference assay standards, duplicates, retention of pulps
and coarse rejects and the maintenance of chain-of-custody among
other procedures.
Holes were drilled southerly at approximately 150 degree azimuth
and approx.60 degrees dip at collar. The true thickness of the
mineralization is estimated to be approx.0.8 times the interval
length. The mineralization has a steep 85 degree dip.
