ROYAL OAK, Mich., July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bonal
International, Inc. (OTC: BONL) has announced that
A. George Hebel, III, former
Chairman and current board member of Bonal International, Inc.,
died of complications due to cancer on July
6, 2014. Hebel retired from full time duties as President
and CEO on March 31, 2010 and
remained Chairman of the Board of Directors until February, 2014.
Previously he served Bonal in various capacities throughout a 50
year period.
"George was focused on market introduction of Bonal's Meta-Lax
stress relief technology. Under his leadership, businesses from
over 66 different sectors of the metalworking industry located in
over 60 countries acquired Meta-Lax equipment. It was George who
presented 'Meta-Lax' as a possible name for the new revolutionary
technology that he helped develop and patent. George had a special
talent for designing equipment. He designed over 30 control
consoles and three product lines. George will be sorely missed,"
stated Thomas E. Hebel, Chairman of
the Board.
George Hebel joined Bonal
Corporation (the original machine shop where the Meta-Lax
technology was developed) in 1963 as a machinist with building
maintenance responsibilities. He assumed the responsibilities
of plant manager in 1967, overseeing the growth and direction of
the machining operation. In 1976, an expansion of the
organization to include a Vibronics Division provided for increased
responsibilities, including becoming a member of Bonal
Corporation's Board of Directors and General Manager of its plant
operations. He was Chairman and CEO of Bonal Corporation from
December, 1992 to February, 1995. Hebel was co-inventor, with his
late father, August (Gus) G. Hebel,
Jr., and wrote the first patents in 1971 for the Meta-Lax
Stress Relief technology. Meta-Lax substitutes for heat treatment
stress relief at a dramatic time, providing cost and energy savings
while increasing the performance and longevity of metal parts.
In 2002, Hebel was honored by Entrepreneurs for Energy
Efficiency Inc. for successfully commercializing Bonal's energy
savings technology.
Hebel's continued efforts within the metalworking industry
brought him recognition as one of the finalists for Ernst &
Young's 2008 Central Great Lakes Entrepreneur of the Year. During
an interview for the award Hebel offered the following insights on
questions asked of him.
MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON: "My father – an innovator
himself who always tried to push the idea of not accepting the norm
and if you have a problem, figure it out and be creative. He taught
me a lot about creativity."
FAVORITE PLACE: "I have a home in northern Michigan on Mullett Lake and a home in
Florida and I love them both.
Playing golf in January is great."
FAVORITE HOBBY: "My favorite hobby has been home
improvement and remodeling jobs. My wife was in real estate and
she'd get good buys on houses and we'd fix them up together."
HOW I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED: "As a good father and
grandfather, nothing else counts. You're doing what you can to help
society and make a living and what you leave behind are kids and
grandkids. Lincoln said the only
legacy you leave behind is family."
He was a member of the Clawson Troy Elks #2169, Clawson Eagles, American Legion, Melbourne, FL, Michigan Manufacturers
Association, American Society of Metals, Entrepreneurs for Energy
Efficiency, Michigan Chamber of
Commerce and Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce. Hebel
received a degree in mechanical technology from Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1970 and did
post-graduate studies in business administration and marketing at
Lawrence Tech's School of Industrial Management.
George Hebel is survived by his
wife Marilyn, four children, ten grandchildren, six brothers and
sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
