California DENVER, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Centennial
Specialty Foods Corporation (Nasdaq: CHLE; Boston Stock Exchange:
CSJ) announced today it has gained authorization for distribution
of three varieties of its premium Stokes Green Chile Sauces in over
700 Safeway stores in Arizona and California. This is a significant
increase in store count for Centennial, which has historically
focused on its Colorado home front. Safeway has approximately 326
Vons stores in Southern California, 261 Safeway stores in Northern
California, and 114 Safeway stores in Arizona. Shipment of product
to Arizona locations began in early November, while products are
expected to ship to California in December. By adding new Safeway
regions, Centennial has started its expansion plans to sell their
unique Stokes Green Chile Sauces in states outside the Rocky
Mountain Region. "Our line of authentic Southwestern foods has
shown tremendous success in the Rocky Mountain region for many
years. We are excited to expand into these new regions with
Safeway, a long time customer and supporter of the Stokes brand,"
said Jeffrey Nieder, Chief Executive Officer of Centennial.
Centennial closed its initial public offering of 1,550,000 shares
of its common stock on November 3, 2003, bringing in gross proceeds
of approximately $7.75 million. A substantial portion of the
proceeds will be used for consumer marketing as Centennial expands
the Stokes line of branded premium green chile sauces into new
regions. Centennial Specialty Foods Corporation is a manufacturer
and distributor of ethnic Southwestern food products. Its products
are sold under the Stokes and Ellis labels, two well-known
Southwestern brands that date back almost 100 years. Principal
channels of distribution for Centennial's products are grocery
retailers, superstores and club stores in Colorado and, to a lesser
extent, several major metropolitan markets in adjoining states.
