Hemp, Inc. (OTC:HEMP) today announced its support of the 5th Annual
Hemp History Week from June 2 through June 8, 2014. The week long
awareness campaign, themed "It's Time to Grow", features thousands
of events across the country (including movie screenings of
"Bringing it Home" and "The Emperor of Hemp") in an effort to
educate and raise awareness regarding the environmental and
nutritional benefits of Industrial Hemp and hemp-based products.
Bruce Perlowin, CEO of Hemp, Inc. (OTC:HEMP), one of the early
pioneers in the Industrial Hemp industry, said, "It's all about
change. We have to completely end the ban on hemp farming in
America. It's time for our U.S. farmers to grow a crop that's
versatile, sustainable and profitable ... a crop we know as
Industrial Hemp." This year, Hemp History Week has multitudes to
celebrate such as: Colorado's Hemp harvest, last fall, motivated
farmers to prep their fields for the sustainable, lucrative
crop; Kentucky sprouted research fields; and the Farm Bill
signed into law allowing farmers to cultivate hemp crops for
research purposes.
This month, Hemp, Inc. (OTC:HEMP) also purchased a line of
Temafa decortication machinery which will, according to Perlowin,
"undoubtedly" present many opportunities for Americans to
transition from non-sustainable synthetic solutions to more
hemp-based green solutions. The purchase enables Hemp, Inc.
to position itself as the buyer and processor of U.S. farmers'
harvests, so as American farmers begin to grow and cultivate hemp,
Hemp, Inc.'s facility will also double as a marketplace for the
hemp farmers.
With the only decorticating machinery of this magnitude in the
United States, Hemp, Inc. (OTC:HEMP) can process raw hemp which can
be used to make paper, fabric, cellulose plastics, materials used
extensively in well drilling to prevent lost circulation, material
for toxic spill cleanup; and, highly insulating building products
such Hempcrete, to name a few. The equipment is designed to
separate the fiber from the core of the hemp plant, thus allowing
hundreds to thousands of products to be made.
On a recent trip to North Carolina, Perlowin was able to meet
with the former VP of Operations (David Schmitt) of the kenaf
processing plant currently housing the decortication equipment. In
a video, Schmitt explained how the raw hemp plant is
processed. "Purchasing this decortication machinery puts Hemp,
Inc. 4-5 years ahead of any other hemp manufacturing
facility. To duplicate this plant will by no means be an easy
feat."
Schmitt continued, "Today, it would take over $10,000,000 and 1
year just to build this equipment and another year to ship, house
it at a suitable location and install it. Another year, on top
of that, would be needed to debug and perfect the
operation. After that, you have to create a market with paper
mills, the auto industry and other industrial hemp
buyers. Hemp, Inc. has all of this already in place so the
likelihood of anyone catching up with Hemp, Inc. now is slim to
none."
Perlowin also commented, "Due to the continual efforts of hemp
activists, the industry has been growing at an alarming speed
despite 'outdated and misinformed' laws created decades ago that
classified the non-psychoactive plant with marijuana, or cannabis
sativa. However, the farm bill that was signed into law by
President Barack Obama legalized industrial hemp production in
states that permit it. While a major accomplishment for the
Industrial Hemp industry, America is still the leading importer and
not exporter of hemp products. It's unsettling that millions of
dollars are spent in other countries for a crop that America's
farmers should profit from."
Still trying to keep a strong foothold in Industrial Hemp
industry, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration recently seized
a 250-pound shipment of Industrial hemp seeds at an airport in
Kentucky. The hemp seeds were intended for the state's pilot
program launch. According to Huffington Post article, "House
Tells DEA to Leave State Hemp Programs Alone" 5/30/14, Rep. Jared
Polis (D-Colo.) said, "Farmers are unable to get the seed they need
in order to grow their legal crop ... It's really hard to grow
industrial hemp, and the DEA without any clear reason, any
argument, any sense, throws itself down as a roadblock to
success."
"This year, the national grassroots campaign is encouraging
Americans to take action by writing to their U.S. Senator and
asking them to co-sponsor S.359. Then on June 4th, droves of
hemp supporters are expected to take to Twitter to trend #HempWeek.
Ryan Loflin, a known hemp farmer and fellow activist, is also
expected to join the "Twitter Party". Collaborative efforts
of Hemp History Week and Hemp Industries Association are also
expected to organize symposiums on spring planting of hemp," said
Perlowin.
While Hemp, Inc. (OTC:HEMP) has taken to rallying for the cause,
celebrities are also endorsing Hemp Week. Such celebrities
include actress Alicia Silverston, musician Ziggy Marley, Grammy
award-winning band Ozomatli, and best-selling author Andrew Weil,
MD, to name a few.
Hemp, Inc.'s subsidiary, The Industrial Hemp and Medical
Marijuana Consulting Company, known as IHMMCC is also comprised of

History Week. These public companies, which are new to the
