International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 1.4% to 149.21. The European index lost 1.7% to 144.40, the Asian index declined 1% to 173.94, the Latin American index dropped 1.8% to 187.54 and the emerging markets index decreased 1.5% to 286.86.

ADRs of Henkel AG & Co. KGaA slid 3.9% after the German consumer-products firm reported a sequential deceleration in group volumes in its latest quarter.

ADRs of Novo Nordisk AS fell 0.6% to $143.92 after the Danish pharmaceutical company said it made two executive management appointments.
