LONDON--Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.LN) said Tuesday it signed an
agreement with South Africa's MTN Group Ltd. (MTN.JO) that will
allow customers of MTN and M-Pesa, or Vodafone Money Transfer, to
transfer money to each other.
The collaboration will allow convenient and affordable
international remittances between M-Pesa customers in Kenya,
Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique, and MTN
Mobile Money customers in Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia, Vodafone said
in a statement.
M-Pesa is a money-transfer service that enables people who have
access to a mobile phone, but do not have or have only limited
access to a bank account, to send and receive money, top-up airtime
and make bill payments, Vodafone says on its website.
