Somatic Systems, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: SMAS) is pleased to announce its
sponsorship of the 9th Annual Battlefield Healthcare Conference.
IDGA's Battlefield Healthcare conference is a high profile 4-day
event, March 30 through April 2, 2009, providing a platform for
reviewing objectives and program initiatives to provide combat
casualty care for the US military. The Conference details best
practices and current developments in combat healthcare and
rehabilitative care as well as facilitates a forum where treatment
initiatives and advanced research is discussed, debated, and
developed.
The Conference's audience is comprised of senior-level
professionals from military units and organizations, government
agencies, contractors, technology service providers and academia.
Attendees will include directors responsible for medical readiness,
education and training, health services, medical plans &
requirements, research and development, and case management.
In addition to the other exposure provided by the sponsorship,
Somatic Systems will be specially showcased as an exhibitor
throughout the Conference, presenting demonstrations and other
detailed information about the company's revolutionary Somatics
pain-care treatment system. Somatic Systems will also be branded
and prominently displayed and featured on-site throughout the
Conference, and on IDGA's website.
Sponsorship of and showcasing at the Conference comes just as
Somatic Systems is beginning to provide service for US military
veterans. Last month, the company announced they would launch their
first provision of Clinical Somatics services in the Denver,
Colorado area starting the end of February. They also announced
talks with the Veterans Administration and Tricare, the military
health insurance plan, regarding implementation details of
insurance coverage reimbursements for the services.
The Battlefield Healthcare Conference
(http://www.battlefieldhealthcare.com) is a valuable element in
Somatic Systems' efforts to implement large-scale treatment of the
70 million soldiers, veterans, and dependents in the military
health care system using its advanced Clinical Somatics pain care
and injury treatment methods. Somatic Systems obtained military
contractor status in October and registration in the National
Provider registry this month. The expected course of this progress
is full military approval and health coverage for Somatic Systems'
Clinical Somatics treatments, clinics, practitioners, and treatment
service programs.
The Military Chronic Pain Crisis
In October, Somatic Systems announced it was working to provide
its proprietary Clinical Somatics pain-care services for US
military hospitals and the Veterans Administration. In addition to
seeking in-house arrangements at bases and facilities, the company
is preparing to rollout multiple clinics at military base locations
throughout the US, to provide easy access to Clinical Somatics
services at a time when the US military is strongly seeking
satisfactory pain treatment solutions such as Clinical Somatics --
and following a wave of legislation including the Military Pain
Care Act of 2008, which requires the Department of Defense,
Veterans Affairs, and Health and Human Services and the Surgeon
General of the United States to implement and maintain a pain care
initiative in all military health care facilities and for all
active and retired military personnel, dependents, and
survivors.
Nearly 26 million living Americans have served in the military,
and pain is the most common symptom and cause of disability amongst
veterans, with more than 40% of returning service members reporting
musculoskeletal pain-related problems and symptoms. Additionally,
long-term sufferers as well as family members and other dependents
of all ages also face pain and other musculoskeletal problems; and
this population totals over 70 million people, served by the
Veterans Administration. In the face of this, military officials,
medical authorities, and government officials have reported
frustration that the military does not yet have a satisfactory pain
care program in place.
