Totally Green, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: TLGN), a
pioneer in organic food processing systems and compostable
packaging alternatives, has appointed the former U.S. Department of
Agriculture's (USDA) Assistant Secretary for Administration, Boyd
K. Rutherford, as a strategic advisor.
Rutherford is currently the founder and principle of Eastwind
Strategies, LLC of Columbia, Maryland. Eastwind provides management
consulting services, strategic counseling, and government relations
for businesses seeking to do business in the federal, state, and
local governmental markets. The firm's particular focus is on
sustainable operations and green purchasing divisions within these
markets.
"As a new key advisor to our company, we look to benefit from
Boyd's extensive experience as the USDA's chief acquisition officer
and chair to Sustainable Operations Council," said Rob Phillips,
president of Totally Green.
In 2006, President George W. Bush nominated Rutherford to these
positions, which encompassed the entire Energy & Environmental
initiatives for the USDA and also included the position of chief of
Human Capital Officer. His accomplishments were numerous, including
the substantial reduction of electric power consumption in more
than 2 million square feet of USDA facilities, increasing the
USDA's recycling program that led to a 20% reduction in
disposal/tipping fees, facilitated the adoption of Hydrogen Fuel
Cell-powered vehicles into the USDA fleet, and executed a
successful "Biobased Products Showcase" at the 2008 GSA Expo.
Perhaps most synergistic to Totally Green's business development
efforts is Rutherford's experience while he was with the U.S.
General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, D.C. from
2001-2003. As the associate administrator for the Office of
Performance Improvement, Rutherford was responsible for ensuring
the development and implementation of a rigorous process of
continuous improvement of the agency's operations. His
relationships within the GSA remain considerably deep and mostly
attributable to his major accomplishments during his tenure.
"I have been following Totally Green for several years as a
friend to Totally Green's co-founder and CEO, Bill Horner, and avid
follower of the ORCA Green Machine™," said Rutherford. "Observing
Totally Green evolve this technology in a truly 'green' composting
solution for large scale institutions has been fascinating, as I
see countless opportunities for implementing the ORCA Green Machine
as a sustainable alternative to current methods of waste disposal,
especially in government applications."
The ORCA Green Machine allows for rapid composting of most
organic material in institutional and commercial end user
applications, after which the liquid compost is either returned to
the soil as nourishment or disposed of through the ordinary sewer
system. The machine creates meaningful cost savings for customers
while diverting food waste from landfills and reducing methane gas
production. The company has tests ongoing in a variety of
industries, including casinos, convention centers, club stores,
cruise lines, education, hospitals, hotels & resorts, produce
growers, and supermarkets.
Totally Green recently announced that it installed its
revolutionary ORCA Green Machine at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in
Portsmouth, Virginia and U.S. General Services Administration's
(GSA) Regional Office Building in Washington, D.C. The food service
facilities at these locations have been producing thousands of
pounds of organic wastes on a daily basis that were previously
being disposed of through less-environmentally friendly
methods.
The ORCA Green Machine will be featured by Totally Green at the
GSA Training Conference and Expo 2011 to be held in San Diego,
California on May 10-11. Totally Green's head of sales of the ORCA
Green Division, Ryan Casey, will demonstrate the ORCA technology at
booth #1524. More information about the conference is available at
www.expo.GSA.Gov.
Prior to Eastwind Strategies, Rutherford served the Republican
National Committee in Washington, D.C. as its chief administrative
officer for the RNC budget process. Rutherford earned his B.A.
degree in Economics and Political Science at Howard University in
1979, and his Master's degree in Communication Management and Law
degree from the University of Southern California. He formerly
practiced law in California, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
