Italy's Mediaset SpA (MS.MI) said on Monday that a court in
Milan has set a hearing for Jan. 21 regarding its merger-related
dispute with French media group Vivendi SA (VIV.FR) and Simon
Fiduciaria SpA, an asset trust that holds part of the French
company's stake in Mediaset.
Mediaset proposed merging its Italian and Spanish operations
into one entity, a Dutch holding company, in a plan that
shareholder Vivendi opposes. The merger was suspended by a Spanish
court in October.
The Italian broadcasting company confirmed that the hearing will
take place following an extraordinary meeting on Jan. 10, when
Mediaset shareholders will vote on changes to the planned holding
company.
Vivendi has been feuding with Mediaset, which is controlled by
former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's family, since a
pay-TV deal between the two companies collapsed in 2016.
