                (BLADEX) DECLARES REGULAR QUARTERLY DIVIDENDS


Panama City, Republic of Panama, April 27, 2001 -Banco Latinoamericano de
Exportaciones, S.A. (BLADEX) (NYSE: BLX) today reported that its Board of
Directors, at a meeting held on April 26, 2001, declared a regular quarterly
cash dividend of US$0.47 per common share. This dividend is payable on May 29,
2001 to stockholders of record as of May 18, 2001. As of March 31, 2001,
BLADEX had 18,682,155 common shares of all classes outstanding.

At the same meeting, the Board of Directors also declared a regular quarterly
cash dividend of $0.84 per preferred share, payable on May 15, 2001 to
preferred stockholders of record as of April 30, 2001. As of March 31, 2001,
BLADEX had 1,537,458 preferred shares outstanding.
