Employer and the Best Place to Work in St. Louis ST. LOUIS, Dec. 22
/PRNewswire/ -- Ameren is celebrating an honor-filled 2009 with
three awards from Metro St. Louis organizations and a
highly-respected veterans magazine. On Dec. 4, the St. Louis
Minority Business Council (SLMBC) recognized Ameren as a recipient
of the 2009 Corporation of the Year Award, presented annually to
the corporate member that best demonstrates a commitment to
minority business purchasing. Over the past several years, Ameren
has built an aggressive program to support diverse businesses,
reflecting the commitment of the corporation and its utility
companies to the communities they serve. "As a major purchaser of
material and services, Ameren plays a significant role in
supporting the growth and development of diverse suppliers," said
Dennis Weisenborn, vice president of Supply Services. "Ameren
leadership, business segments, employees and business partners are
dedicated to ensure that minority businesses are encouraged and
given opportunities to do business with Ameren." Minority business
enterprises nominate and select the winner of the Corporation of
the Year Award. Ameren will now compete against winners selected by
other regional councils for the national title from the National
Minority Supplier Development Council. The winner of the national
award will be announced in October 2010. In addition to SLMBC's
award, Ameren was also named a top 100 military-friendly employer
by G.I. Jobs Magazine. The announcement was featured in the
magazine's December 2009 issue. G.I. Jobs provides tips, training
and other career opportunities for veterans and military personnel
transitioning back into civilian life. Ameren's military recruiting
strategy includes nationwide events from base visits to career
fairs and multiple online resources. The company also provides
security and support to reservists and their families through
continued benefits when reservists are called to active duty. "We
are very pleased to receive this honor," says Thomas R. Voss,
Ameren President and CEO and former captain in the United States
Air Force. "Ameren is proud of its long history of hiring military
veterans who are interested in working for one of the largest
utilities in the Midwest." And finally, on Nov. 22, Ameren was
named the "best place to work" in an online contest sponsored by
the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Called "Local Treasures," readers
selected their top choices for the best dining, shopping and
service experiences plus the best places to live, worship and work.
