Placing

Alphameric plc ("Alphameric") announces that it has today entered into
arrangements, conditional inter alia on admission, to place 5,229,000 new
ordinary shares of 2.5 pence each ("New Ordinary Shares") at 56.5 pence per
share (the "Placing"), to raise approximately #2.95 million before expenses. The
New Ordinary Shares represent approximately 5.0 per cent. of Alphameric's
existing issued share capital. The broker to the Placing was Investec
Securities.

Applications have been made for the New Ordinary Shares to be admitted to the
Official List of the UK Listing Authority and to the London Stock Exchange to be
admitted to trading on its market for listed securities. It is expected that
admission will take place on Wednesday 23 July 2003. The New Ordinary Shares
will rank pari passu with the existing issued ordinary shares, save for the
interim dividend of 0.65 pence payable on 14 August 2003.
