Dr Ian Gilham joins the Group Board of Axis-Shield plc

Axis-Shield plc ("Axis-Shield"), the Dundee-based diagnostics company, today
announces the official joining of Dr Ian Gilham to the Axis-Shield Group Board
as Group Managing Director, Laboratory Division.

Dr Gilham joined Axis-Shield from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) where he was Vice
President - Pharmacogenetics and Applied Diagnostics.  At GSK, he was
responsible for the delivery of pharmacogenetic tests, as well as novel
diagnostic, prognostic and surrogate marker tests used in targeting.  Prior to
joining GSK, he held management and research and development positions with
Abbott Laboratories, Celltech and Amersham, at each of which he gained
significant experience in the field of diagnostics.
