COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 21 February, 2002
BETA VIET NAM FUND LIMITED ("THE COMPANY")
At the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company held on 14th February 2002
70% of the Company's Shareholders attended in person or by proxy and the
following changes to the Board took place:
1. Richard Povey, Gerard Bertaud and Anthony Davies were removed as Directors of
the Company by a Vote of 83% of the Shareholders present at the Meeting.
2. Alan Deacon, Christopher Brader and Filip Montfort were elected Directors by
83% of the Shareholders present at the Meeting
The resolution for the removal of Jane Hakham as a Director was not put to the
Meeting as Ms Hakham had resigned as a Director prior to the Meeting.
Immediately subsequent to the Shareholders Meeting the new Directors elected Mr
Alan Deacon Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Alan Deacon
Mr Deacon is a Chartered Accountant and a former Partner in KPMG, Hong Kong,
where he was employed from 1976 to 1993, when he retired from the partnership.
In Ireland, Mr Deacon is currently involved with a number of companies based in
the International Financial Services Centre in Dublin. Through his involvement
with these Funds Mr Deacon visits the Far East regularly and maintains business
interests in Hong Kong.
Mr Deacon holds a degree in Business Studies from Trinity College, Dublin. He is
married with three children and lives in Dublin.
Christopher Brader
Mr Brader is a Director of CrossBorder Capital Limited, the company is an
independent research house analysing global liquidity flows for the purpose of
predicting equity, bond and currency market movements, he has been a consultant
to this company from November 2000 and was made a Director in September 2001. Mr
Brader spent his formative years at Cazenove & Co where he spent 10 years in
Asia before returning to the UK. Subsequently, he ran the Global Emerging
Markets Country Fund Businesses of ING Barings from February 1993 to June 1998
and then SG Securities from June 1998 to November 2000, so he is extremely
experienced in and knowledgeable about Closed End Country Funds investing in
Emerging Markets. Mr Brader is a Member of the Securities Institute and is
currently registered with the UK Financial Services Authority.
Filip Montfort
Mr Montfort is a Czech trained Lawyer who currently serves as the Chief Legal
and Economic Advisor to the Euro-Czech Forum, a joint institution of the
Chambers of Commerce of Britain, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden,
where he has served from April 2001. He previously served as legal and political
advisor to the delegation of the European Commission to the Czech Republic from
March 1999 to March 2001, prior to this Mr Montfort was studying at the Charles
University in Prague.
Mr Montfort has a law degree from the Charley University in Prague, a Bachelor
of Arts from the University of Economics in Prague and practised law with an
American Law firm in Prague prior to his relationship with the European
Commission.
A memorandum detailing the names of all the companies and partnerships of which
Messrs. Deacon, Brader and Montfort have been a director or partner at any time
in the previous five years, together with an indication of whether or not
Messrs. Deacon, Brader and Montfort are still the director or partner, is
available for inspection at the office of the Company's Administrator upon
request.
Save as disclosed herein, no further information is required to be disclosed in
relation to Messrs. Deacon, Brader and Montfort under the ISE's listing
requirements for investment funds.
