ENTERTAINMENT RIGHTS ANNOUNCES BRAND NEW BBC COMMISSION FOR BASIL'S SWAP SHOP
Entertainment Rights Plc (LSE: ERT) the UK's leading global media group
specialising in the ownership of children's and family programming, characters
and brands, announces that the BBC has commissioned The Foundation to produce
Basil's Swap Shop. The series will air live on Saturday mornings on BBC2 for a
thirteen week run. The studio-based live entertainment show is a fresh updated
format of the classic BBC 70's "Multi-coloured Swap Shop" and will be hosted by
Basil Brush(R) and BAFTA award-winning CBBC presenter, Barney Harwood.
Starring Basil Brush, a wholly owned Entertainment Rights property, the
production agreement between the BBC and The Foundation for Basil's Swap Shop
builds on the success of the sixth series of The Basil Brush ShowTM which aired
this autumn on CBBC and BBC1, and brings the total number of episodes under
license to 78.
Basil's Swap Shop updates the "Swap Shop" concept for the 21st century, with a
mix of interactive and comedy based entertainment, jokes, sketches, music and
games, all reflecting Basil's own unique character. Each week, special star
guests will also visit the show to trade their goods.
Mike Heap, CEO, Entertainment Rights Plc, commented: "Basil Brush(R) is a much
loved national treasure. Entertainment Rights is delighted that the BBC has
commissioned Basil's Swap Shop. This show takes Basil into a dynamic new
multiplatform environment and he will bring Swap Shop to a whole new generation
of children. The digital element will enhance the viewing experience and
children will be able to participate in the show first hand through the
multi-platform interactive format the series will adopt."
