in 4,600,000 ordinary shares of German Smaller Companies Investment Trust PLC.
3.10 million shares are held through a derivatives arrangement and 1.5 million
shares are held in nominee form.  Based on the Company's Stock Exchange
announcement of 7th October 1998 stating 39,628,894 ordinary shares remain in
issue, this economic interest represents 11.6% of the issued share capital.
