McALPINE ANNOUNCED AS PREFERRED BIDDER FOR

                            #170M ADDENBROOKE'S PFI

Alfred McAlpine PLC, ("McAlpine"), has today announced that it has been
appointed preferred bidder by the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust for a #170 million PFI
scheme. The project will expand the facilities for non-emergency patient care at
Addenbrooke's Hospital and will also provide Cambridge University with expanded
research facilities.

The consortium developing the facility, Key Health (Addenbrooke's) Limited is a
partnership between McAlpine and NIB Capital Bank NV.

McAlpine's Capital Projects business will carry out the #67 million construction
work and its Business Services operations will provide facilities management and
maintenance services over the course of the 30-year concession, which will
generate revenues in excess of #100m.

The new centre will provide significant capacity for non-emergency care services
and will help Addenbrooke's to meet government targets to reduce waiting times
for operations and improve the service for patients in Cambridgeshire.

Oliver Whitehead, Chairman of McAlpine commented,

" Following our success in securing similar schemes at Wythenshawe and Hereford
this announcement confirms the competitiveness of McAlpine in the health sector.
Additionally, it is another sign that our strategy of offering integrated
solutions which combine our capabilities in construction, infrastructure and
facilities management is getting a positive reception in the market.

" McAlpine remains committed to supporting the continued development of the NHS.
The McAlpine and NIB Capital Bank NV partnership has delivered a first class
solution to a complex set of departmental requirements. We look forward to
completing the building phase of the project early in 2006 and to providing a
high quality facilities management service over the next 30 years."

Malcolm Stamp, Chief Executive of Addenbrooke's NHS Trust said,

" We look forward to working with McAlpine on what promises to be an exciting
project. A modern health service demands that we explore new ways of providing a
reactive and efficient service for our patients and this centre represents a
major step in fulfilling this vision."
