                      AGM Statement

Meikles Africa Limited is a Zimbabwe based hotel and
retail group listed on the Zimbabwe and London Stock
Exchanges.

At the AGM held today in Harare, John Moxon, Executive
Chairman, made the following comments:

'Despite the difficult trading conditions in Zimbabwe,
the Group is trading ahead of expectations in the year to
date.

'Meikles Hotel has experienced a relatively quiet period
as the number of international business travellers
visiting Zimbabwe has fallen, but the Group's department
stores and TM Supermarkets are trading well.

'In this economic environment, the Group's strategy is
focused on improving efficiencies, containing costs and
close attention to the management of working capital.

'Overall, we remain confident of producing a good result
for the year and are well positioned to benefit from any
upturn in the economic situation.'
